A Study on the Impact of Saving on Youth`s Happiness

Abstract

Youth in Korea faces challenging life tasks such as dating, marriage, child-bearing, and employment. This study assumes that saving of youth can modify youth`s perceptions of life satisfaction and happiness. Using a survey(10th data) of the Korean Education and Employment Panel in Korea, this study aims to examine the extent to which saving influences happiness of youth. In addition, this study which factors affect savings of youth. Key findings are as follows: First, we found that savings are positively related to happiness of youth. Second, physical health, education level, employment status, marital status, and total debt are also significantly related to happiness of youth. Last, savings of youth were found to be influenced by many factors such as gender, health, marital status, education, employment status, income, total assets, and total debts. The findings suggest that asset building through savings influences happiness of youth and that asset building programs targeting youth should be expanded to enhance chances of making youth much happier.
